Centennial Celebration
Honoring Women in a Century of Change

Visit the Interest Groups page, Programs and Special Events page and the Photo Gallery for more information on Duke Campus Club events.

Duke Campus Club, an organization for women of Duke University, celebrates its Centennial with a year of special activities and events beginning in the Fall, 2013.
The Centennial theme is "Honoring Women in a Century of Change".  Cindy Brodhead, wife of Duke President Dr. Richard Brodhead, is Honorary Chair of the Centennial Celebration.  As she says, "The Centennial Celebration is such a wonderful opportunity to look back with pride at the enterprising women who began Campus Club a century ago.  They were real innovators in their time – bright, educated women who came together to learn and share friendships.  There have been many changes in the 100 years since Campus Club began, but their legacy is important as we continue this rich tradition.”

Campus Club began in March, 1914 when Mary Few, wife of President William Few (pictured here above the ladies preparing for a 60's fashion show), organized a group of women to "promote general acquaintance and friendship ... and to further the social interests of the College". Since then, Campus Club has evolved from a "white gloves", invitation-only society of University administrators and faculty wives to one that includes female faculty and staff, alumnae, volunteers, and other women associated with the University and Medical Center.

The Duke Campus Club also honored the Centennial year with a donation to the Duke Gardens project to restore the pergola.  In this photo are Campus Club members presenting a $3000 check as seed money for the pergola restoration.  With this seed money, the entire amount required for the project (over $30,000) was raised by donation from Campus Club members.  The project will begin in July or August and will take several months.  The wisteria will be cut down to the ground and allowed to regrow.  Meanwhile the pergola will be painted and restored.

Another $3000 donation was given to the Duke Libraries to support the Events Wall.
